PLANT MAHOGANY TREES TO PRESERVE THE GREEN ENVIRONMENT
To preserve the green environment, the Biodiversity (KEHATI) team and the environmental team planted Mahogany trees in the TeL Millsite area.
World Tree Planting Movement Day which is commemorated every January 10th is a trigger for the Company (TeL) to care about preserving the green environment of the surrounding nature.
The planting of hundreds of Mahogany trees at the Landfill area and in the TeL Millsite area in January 2025 is a real manifestation of the implementation of environmental performance policy programs in terms of environmental sustainability, reducing carbon emissions and environmental pollution burdens, and meeting Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) standards.
The Biodiversity Team (KEHATI) and the Environment Team (END) will continue to plant mahogany trees in the TeL area, with a target of 1000 Mahogany tree nurseries in 2025/2026.The preparation/provision of Mahogany tree seedlings was obtained from the internal Nursery program itself which is managed by the KEHATI TeL team which is specifically for the greening planting program in the Company Area (TeL) environment.
Why Mahogany Trees?
Mahogany trees (Swietenia macrophylla) are an important part of the forest ecosystem, chosen because they have the characteristic of being able to make a positive contribution to help reduce global warming (global warning), improve air quality, produce oxygen and are able amounts of carbon.

Referring to several sources of research results from agricultural experts, Plantations and Forestry published in a number of scientific journals, it shows that mahogany trees are able to make a positive contribution of reducing air pollution by around 47-69% and producing very high oxygen (can absorb up to 955.73 kilograms of carbon dioxide per year).
Mahogany trees have great ecological benefits and are resistant to various environmental conditions, so they are good and suitable to be planted in the Millsite area to maintain the stability of the surrounding natural ecosystem. Mahogany trees can live for more than 350 years, mahogany is a large tree with a tree height reaching 40 meters and a diameter reaching 125 cm.
Our life in the Millsite area (Factory environment) cannot be separated from the role of technology and fuel-based Mill machines which of course produce exhaust emissions into the atmosphere, so what needs to be done is how gases such as C02 can be absorbed, one way is to carry out reforestation by planting trees, especially those with high absorption capacity such as Mahogany trees.
The number of trees/plants planted will be able to absorb more C02 from the air and release oxygen which is very much needed by humans and animals. Thus, the balance of nature is well maintained, besides that, it can also prevent erosion, maintain groundwater management, cool, provide a place to live for several types of animals and absorb dust, dampen wind and sound In short, reforestation by planting mahogany is a form of effort to conserve nature and makes a major contribution to the entire ecosystem.

In general, several benefits of planting mahogany trees in factory environments include: Absorbing air pollution/being able to absorb toxins (pollutants) and C02 in the air and producing oxygen so the air is fresher, Preventing environmental damage, Reducing the impact of global warming, Absorbing lead, reducing the risk of flooding, has good water catchment capacity, maintains soil fertility, is tolerant of various soil conditions, provides shade for plants underneath
We (Biodiversity TeL Team) hope that the greening program activities can help raise awareness among all parties about the importance of protecting and preserving the natural environment while supporting ‘net zero emissions’ by the spirit of the Ministry of Environment which is currently the issue of the Indonesian government. Every tree we plant is a message of our love for nature for our children and grandchildren in the future.
